What’s Your Magic-To-You Superpower?

TL;DR: It’s official The 3rd Act Collective is officially enrolling Founding Members! Details Below and HERE.
A Note From Colleen
Hi, friend.
Thanks to those who checked on my last week since I ‘missed’ a week of the Gumption Gazette publication.
I hosted a big workshop last week and mistakenly believed I could do more in the hours I had than I actually could. Sound familiar?
I’ll tell you a bit about the workshop below and my BIG news: The 3rd Act Collective is officially enrolling Founding Members.
Thanks for being here.
Cheers,
Colleen Kochannek, Publisher

HAVE YOU IDENTIFIED YOUR MAGIC-TO-YOU SUPERPOWER YET?
We all have one. It’s the convergence of where the thing you love to do meets the thing you’re good at.
For some of us it looks fairly conventional: I’m good at business and I love teaching = my online business.
For others it’s a bit more nuanced or less conventional, shall we say? You love Christmas and you’re great at design= you’re the house that starts Christmas decorating (in order to win the neighborhood light show competition) in July.
I bring up your magic-to-you-superpower because it’s the basis for finding your unique-to-you online project idea - the one that is going to set your 3rd Act up to be your breakout season.
It’s the idea that will totally drive you as the main character of your next chapter.
Sounds lofty, right?
I know it’s hard to identify ‘the thing we absolutely want to do’, but it’s a pretty straight forward exercise.
In essence, you need to ‘document yourself’. Start writing down, in list format, everything you know how to do and everything you enjoy doing - and choose to spend time on.
Be sure to check old calendars, agendas, photo albums to jog your memory loose. It’s so easy to forget, or no longer see, our talents and skills. They get buried in decades of ‘other responsibilities’.
You can do this with pen and paper. Carry one with you for several days and literally document every task, every moment, every thing. Sounds tedious, but it’s worth it.
Another option, if you’re into AI and are using the paid version of ChatGPT - download the app to your phone and sign in to your account. Now, you can simply talk your list into the app and ChatGPT will transcribe, upload and answer any questions you give it.
Once you get your ‘lists’ filled in, the next two steps are:
Start looking at patterns and themes.
Using just your gut, circle 5-10 items on your list that you love to do, are good and would be tickled about turning into a money-making project online (no censoring!).
We really need to begin bringing our skills back to the surface so we can process them and let them simmer a bit (we have to let them pickle, so to speak).
From here - you look for unique combinations that will make your idea stand out from others, in a way that only you can deliver.
As you recall from two editions of The Gumption Gazette ago, I mentioned two unique businesses:
Lady Delaney, who writes about historical true crime in New Orleans and packages it up as ‘case files’ in a subscription-based product called ‘Letters From Dead People’
A woman, founder of Neon Moon Sewing, who teaches Zoom workshops to those interested in relining vintage train cases.
In each instance, these women combined love-to-do and can-do’s into interesting online money-making projects.
The bottom line: If we can identify what makes us, us - we can build something online that’s simple, original, successful that generates income and makes our 3rd Act creative and meaningful.
I did this exercise, of finding your online idea, in last week’s Your Next Big thing workshop. If you’re interested in watching the REPLAY CLICK HERE.
During the workshop I announced the Grand Opening of The 3rd Act Collective - a new membership community for women over 50 who are ready to identify their magical online idea and bring it to life.

WHEN LIFE LOOKS DIFFERENT
This is the first year in many, to be honest, that I haven’t dreaded the holidays.
For starters, I have some ‘distance’ on my losses. They’re not easier, but I’ve gotten more comfortable to being alone.
Secondly, I’ve let myself imagine new ways of doing things.
Thanksgiving this year, for example, will be Friendsgiving. I’m looking forward to it. A bunch of friends in my apartment building are getting together for a potluck. We have a large dining room with a full kitchen available to us in the lobby of our building. There are big screen TVs, a fireplace, and a commercial ice maker 🙂 that just makes life (and cocktails) better 🙂.
Sometimes, it just takes a bit of time and reframing to make things feel better.

It’s the holiday season - lots of social events and get together where we’re ‘supposed to bring something’. This is not really my forte. I cheat.
For today’s brunch at a girlfriend’s house I am bringing my famous Lemon Bars (straight from Trader Joe’s.) I regret nothing. Martha Stewart would approve (I am pretty sure).
I buy several packages at a time and keep them in the freezer, ready to be thawed at a moment’s notice.
