Your first day of your new online business Post

You have a product and funnel, now what?

A Note From Colleen

Hi, friend.

The first day of my new online business in 2017 was like the first day of school. I had no idea where my locker was or how to find my homeroom.

One of the questions I field the most is, “What do I actually do everyday in my business?”

Over the next few editions, let’s dive into what running an online business looks like on a day-to-day basis.

Thanks for being here.

Cheers,

BUSINESS BASICS

Day #1 As A New Online Business Owner

Let’s imagine. It’s Monday morning - 9am  - first day of your online business.

What do you do?

We’ll imagine you’ve done the work of learning the fundamentals of  online business; you’ve created your first digital product; and, you’ve built your first funnel (got the tech in place).

You are ready to lift off.

Before we dive into actual To-Do’s, let’s get you set up for success.

🧠 Mindset Matters:

You may not want to hear this, but it’s important to get in the mindset of treating your business like a job.

I know, I know. You’re starting it because you don’t want to be an employee (been there, done that for decades, right?), but you do need a framework around your business.

Consistent effort is your path to success. If you’ve never ‘worked from home’ it can take time to develop the self-discipline muscle. Putting a structure around your business helps.

Build Your Schedule:

  1. Review your current day-to-day schedule. Choose the days and times you’ll be ‘in the office working on your business. Building a consistent schedule will help you create a routine and prioritize your business.

  2. Block it on your calendar and commit to the plan. Add notifications and reminders if you need.

  3. If you use an online Calendar, such as a Google calendar, mark the time as ‘busy’ so you don’t double schedule.

It will take you some time to figure out what schedule works best for you, but you need a place to start.

Next week, we’ll begin looking at your daily To-Do list.

LIFE REIMAGINED

Have you been thinking about your 3rd Act, too?

In the past I’ve talked about how I like a challenge; how it feels good to tackle something hard and figure it out.

The same can be true when starting your business. Understandably, a lot of it feels hard and like a chore.

Rethink that.

Learning is cool. Learning hard stuff is even more rewarding.

Don’t let the only goal of starting your business be ‘making money’ (which is a great goal, BTW), but let the process of becoming an online business owner be part of the whole experience - a new set of achievements and milestones.

Celebrate all the wins along the way. You’re growing as a human. Getting smarter. Being incredibly intentional about your life.

There’s power in this process, even in the awkward beginning stages.

QUICK WINS

Steve Jobs was famous for wearing the same thing everyday - to avoid decision fatigue. I have a uniform, too, but not boring like Steve’s.

It’s more of a Talbots uniform. Colorful top + jeans. The shoes vary, but it’s typically going to be a flip-flop, fancy sandals (love my Hush Puppy jelly sandals) or sneakers.

How do you ‘streamline’ your life?

COMING NEXT WEEK

Let’s start building a To-Do list for your first weeks as an online business owner.
